Rising Sun Lodge #39 F&AM

From the east

I want to thank everybody for all they have done at the lodge this year.  Thank you to the line and the Past Masters for stepping up where I have been unable, it is appreciated.    Also special congratulations to the SW Br. Marotte and The SD Br. Woodrow for performing an excellent FC degree to 2 brothers last month.  We also raised a new brother last month which is always a special occasion.  Keep in mind getting these candidates in the door is just the beginning the top and bottom line signers need to keep in touch as they are the first and probably most important point of contact.

Thank you to RW Br. Gullett and W Br. Webster for their encouragement to the new candidates as well, without their tutoring we would not have been able to keep our candidates moving forward.

I have been blessed with a great Masonic family. Thank you all, and I hope to be of greater service to all of you this year.

Look for somebody this month that you can help, and go out of your way to help them.  You will be glad you did.

Til next month.

Your Servant.

WM Ken Ziehm

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

This time of year is important for many persons in setting goals and resolutions for the year to come. What kinds of goals have you set for yourself in the lodge? Is there a particular type of ritual that you would like to learn? Are you researching Masonic history to share with your Brothers? Is your goal to become a more active Lodge Member? Is there a non-masonic friend you have who might like to learn more about our great fraternity?

Of course most people don’t follow through on their resolutions and within a couple of weeks they are soon forgotten. But as a Freemason, whatever your particular goal or resolution might be, you have a great advantage; in our Fraternity there is always a trusty Brother waiting to assist you. Perhaps you will be that brother who will be asked to assist. One of our purposes is to make good men better. What better way than to assist a Brother in achieving a goal?

Adopted from Midnight Freemasons

It was voted on during our September Stated Meeting that Lodge Dues will be going up to $110 for Rising Sun, combined with the GL Assessments for 2018 totaling $55 this brings the total to $165. Note that dues is due prior to the ensuing year. 2018 Dues is due on or before December 31, 2017

From the east

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed time with friends and family. As is our custom, we served Thanksgiving dinner at the Lodge. We had 38 people in attendance. Thanks go out to RW Larry Gullett, Shelley Gullett, Kevin Bailey, and the others who worked in the kitchen and made this possible. It was a fine time of breaking bread and enjoying good fellowship with friends and family.

We are rather busy just now and will be conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree upon a new potential candidate on December 13. This will be followed by a Fellowcraft Degree on December 20, if the Candidate is entitled. I hope you can all come out and show your support for these Candidates and your Lodge.

In addition to the Fellowcraft Degree, December’s stated will be election of officers. It is hard to believe that a year has passed since I was installed as Master. My thanks go out to all the officers who served with me, to the Past Masters who were always there to offer advice and support when needed, and most especially to you Brethren!!! This is your Lodge and your confidence and support over the past year has meant so much. It has been an honor to have presided over such a fine Lodge as Rising Sun Lodge No. 39, the Shining Jewell of the Second Masonic District – Second to None!!!

The Holidays

Happy Holidays!!! Whether it is Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, what do the holidays mean to us? No matter what your personal beliefs, I think we can all agree that it is a magical time of year, with beautiful decorations, and amazing light displays. An opportunity to give gifts and spend time with friends and family. The warmth of season’s greetings serves to remind us all that there is still good left in our world. Our simple greeting of “Merry Christmas”, or “Happy Holidays” shows others that we share in the spirit of the holiday season. Let us not forget that this time of year can be very difficult for some. Whether it is due to financial hardship, departed loved ones, illness, or any of a number of problems that we all face in our lives, this can be a difficult time as well. As Masons we value the tenets that we bring to our lodge meetings and that we live in our daily lives. Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, the treasures of Freemasonry, are the founding principles we all share. Let us be especially mindful of these tenets during the holiday season.

~ November 2017 ~

From the east

Lodge activity was impressive in October with the annual visitation from our brethren in Canada. I want to be sure to thank Br. Larry Gullet for scheduling the visit and Br. Guy Martineau for hosting the cookout.  The comedy show was a smashing success, along with visiting all the district lodges and the planetarium in Concord, NH.

As you know we have an EA degree on Wednesday Nov 8, 2017 for the candidate we unanimously approved at our last stated meeting.  We will be performing this degree at Lafayette Bible Lodge on the 8th of November in Goffstown as part of the 2nd Masonic District Visitation schedule with RW Br. Robert Porter as the DDGM.

It was nice to see the sidelines full at the last stated meeting along with a few brothers who had not been in a while.  If you need a ride or know somebody that does please let us know and we will make arrangements to assist a worthy brother.  Brotherly Love may be what we do best as Masons, but it takes communication to make sure we enable ourselves to do the best job possible.  I look forward to seeing you all at our District visitation on the 29th of November and our stated meeting this month.

 Charity does not begin at home, it begins at the place of greatest need.
 Charity should be given because it is the right thing to do, not for thanks, praise or medals.

All are welcome!

The Nashua-area community is cordially invited to join the Nashua Masonic Bodies at the Masonic Building, 196 Main Street in Downtown Nashua, NH (elevator at 200A Main Street) on Saturday, October 21, 2017 to learn about the history and tenets of Freemasonry and its affiliated bodies.

All New Hampshire Masonic Lodges will be open on October 21, 2017 from 9 AM-3 PM as a part of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire’s NH Statewide Masonic Open House.

Tours of the building will be conducted and members will be available to answer questions throughout the day.

From the East

As a child growing up, my favorite characters on Sesame St were the loveable Bert and Ernie. The one character would always ask the other the one the same question over and over, and after what seemed to be an eternity of the same question being asked and answered with temperance, fortitude and justice the other character ultimately became Awnry ( No longer Ernie).

 Many brothers in our lodge have displayed Brotherly love, Relief and Truth and I want to thank and congratulate them for that display. Collectively I call this character BeRT.  The counterpart to this character is Awnry.  We seem to display both of these characteristics in our lodge. Masonry and life in general.  However, I would like to see BeRT being displayed more often as nobody wants to be around Awnry.

The next time you see a problem in lodge or in your own life, remember people are seeing you as a Mason, and you may be the only representative they ever see. Remember the person you are dealing with may be experiencing a divorce, death, sickness or loss of a job. I hope on that day you remember you remember your oath to be BeRT and not Awnry.

OCTOBER’S PARTY

October gave a party;

The leaves by hundreds came –

The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,

And leaves of every name.

The Sunshine spread a carpet,

And everything was grand,

Miss Weather led the dancing,

Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,

The Oaks in crimson dressed;

The lovely Misses Maple

In scarlet looked their best;

All balanced to their partners,

And gaily fluttered by;

The sight was like a rainbow

New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,

At hide-and-seek they played,

The party closed at sundown,

And everybody stayed.

Professor Wind played louder;

The flew along the ground;

And then the party ended

In jolly “hands around.”

It seems like Summer started just a few short weeks ago, and we are now getting ready to go back to our September stated meeting in just a few short weeks.  The visitation season has already started and with RWDDGM Robert M. Porter at the helm we had a great time.  Thank you RW Brother Joe Beaumont for your services previously at the same position. We greatly appreciate it.
The brothers from John Albro lodge in Nova Scotia, Canada will be here to see us soon for a weekend of entertainment and brotherly fellowship in October.  We will be having a night of entertainment with a comedy show for $20 a person.
Over the summer we initiated two new brothers on their EA degree, and we are glad to have them working with Brother Gullett and Brother Webster as their mentors.
I am a strong believer in family first, so please make sure to take care of those who take care of you !
In Brotherly Love hope to see you at the next stated meeting.

Let’s Go To Lodge Tonight

My brother, let’s go to Lodge tonight

You haven’t been for years.

Let’s don our Lambskin Apron white

And sit among our peers.

I feel a kind of longing, see,

to climb those creaky stairs

I know it’ll be a thrill for me

to lay aside my cares.

We’ll meet the Tyler at the door

and though he’ll hesitate,

we’ll hear him say just as before,

Come in or you’ll be late.

I’d like to get out on the floor

Come on, let’s get in line

I want to face the East once more

And give the same old sign.

I want to hear the gavel rap

the Craftsmen to attention

and see the Master don his cap

a night without dissention.

So come! Pass up that picture show,

or your wrestling bout or fight

Switch off that TV set! Let’s go!

Let’s go to Lodge tonight.
