From the East – September 2014

Brethren, as I write this message, I cannot help but reflect on the fact that the previous Trestle-Board (June 2014) was the final one that was produced with the assistance of our late Brother Herb Steinberg.  He was always ready to lend a helping hand in support of his lodge and the Brethren.  We were all privileged to have known him.

I hope you all have had a great summer, and enjoyed at least a little break from Masonic activities.  Although we do not hold any Stated Communications during the summer, that does not mean we weren’t busy.  Under the direction of Brother Jon Bibeau, we had a number of members and family who represented Rising Sun Lodge in assisting with the Annual Fairy Tale Festival at Greely Park in Nashua.  This is important in showing the Citizens of Nashua that Masonry is alive and well in their city, and that we care about our community.

We also enjoyed a visit to our Brothers of John Albro Lodge in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  This year marked the tenth annual trip between the lodges.  Our Brothers showed us their usual outstanding hospitality, and a great time was had by all.  This is what Masonry is all about Brethren.  My thanks to all the Brethren and their families who worked to make this possible, especially to R.W. Larry Gullett and his lady Shelley, who helped to start this tradition and keep it going.

A couple of weeks ago we enjoyed our annual deep sea fishing trip.  It was a nice sunny day with calm seas.  I personally do not fish (I feel too sorry for the fish, and do not eat sea-food), but even I had a great time.  We had prizes for the first catch of the day and for the largest fish.  Thanks go out to Brother Guy Martineau, who once again organized the event and made it possible.

A friendly reminder Brethren, check your dues card.  If it does not have “2014” on it, you are not current.  If you are having trouble meeting this obligation, talk to me.  The Lodge would like to help.  We can remit a portion, or all of your of dues, if you are suffering a financial hardship.  The key is, you have to ask.  I know this can be a hard thing to do, but we are all Brothers and that’s why we are here.

I would like to extend an invitation to those of you who have Masonic Birthdays in September.  Come to our Stated Communication and allow your Brothers to all wish you a Happy Masonic Birthday !!.

Pilgrim Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star: September 26th

2014 Lodges of Instruction.

This year the Grand Lodge will be discussing the seven liberal arts and sciences; Grammar, Rhetoric, Logic, Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, and Astronomy at the Lodges of Instruction. The topic for the 2nd District is Astronomy, which should be interesting in Manchester. All Master Masons are invited, especially all newly Raised Master Masons in the last year.

Thank you to all of you who’ve paid your dues for 2014.  About 1/4 have not, and the Lodge must pay the assessment to the Building Association next month.  Please get your dues payment in, or let us know if you need some help.
